To say that the opening of Hiyakawa in the fall 0f 2020 raised the bar for Japanese cuisine in Miami is an understatement. The architecturally stunning yet sublimely Zen restaurant is inarguably one of the most sophisticated dines in town. Owned and operated by globe-trotting art dealer cum restaurateur Alvaro Perez Miranda (who also owns/operates Wabi-Sabi), Hiyakawa is a temple of haute cuisine, a place to experience and savor Japan’s culinary excellence and rich cultural traditions. Among them, the transportive experience that is omakase.
Beginning Wednesday, June 23 through Sunday, June 27, that experience will be in the hands of acclaimed Chef Anthony Inn. Chef/partner of New York City’s renowned Satsuki and Suzuki restaurants, Inn is a protégé of none other than pioneering chef Oyakato Toshio Suzuki, a master chef who has been setting and defining trends in Japanese cuisine in New York City for more than 40 years. Over the course of five nights, Chef Inn will take over the omakase counter at Hiyakawa alongside his talented chef, Masayuki Komatsu, serving 12 diners per night with reservations required. In addition to omakase, Chef Inn will also feature a handful of exclusive items on Hiyakawa’s a la carte menu. “We are honored to have Chef Inn at Hiyakawa and create a space for our guests to experience his unique talents and artistry,” says Miranda, whose culinary predilections are informed by 15 years in Tokyo and having opened more than 70 restaurants over the course of his storied career. “I created Hiyakawa to serve as a canvas of sorts for the talented chefs and beverage professionals I am lucky enough to work with. I am thrilled to have Anthony among them.”
