Chef Julie Frans Brings Community Closer at The Yard

The Wynwood Yard is pleased to announce that its own Julie Frans is now Director of Community and Culinary. With her new role, Julie brings meaningful advancements to The Yard’s commitment to providing a community space that hosts fun, educational and empowering family-friendly events that promote health, wellness and the importance of our Earth’s sustainability. 

Chef Julie Frans, who is also the Chief Operating Officer / Chef at Large at Della test kitchen began her journey at The Wynwood Yard when she led a Slow Food Miami “Chef Alliance” farm tour for industry members, which Yard founder Della Heiman took part in before opening The Wynwood Yard. Realizing they shared similar entrepreneurial and culinary passions, Julie and Della started working together on new projects like the Della test kitchen and the overall concept of The Yard.

Since then, visitors have been able to enjoy healthy food options while also savoring exquisite flavors. “Living healthfully means taking care of yourself and paying attention to your inner guru.  It also means living in moderation, not being too hard on yourself, and living in a way that brings joy and connection- whatever that means for you,” explains Julie, adding “Living healthfully also means living in balance with our environment and making decisions that are sustainable to this planet that supports us.”

To that end, Julie works diligently on sustainability initiatives at The Yard, including recent efforts like moving away from using straws at The Bar at The Yard, supplementing the plastic cutlery with silverware at Della test kitchen and adding a recycling program to The Yard.

Julie has also been coordinating community cleanups in Wynwood,  in collaboration with WECANN, Dr. Smood,  and Waste Management. These community cleanups will be offered monthly, each one benefiting a local non-profit, and featuring local food and beverage partners. Most will be family-friendly. Julie is also the mastermind behind the upcoming family-focused Back-to-School Kick-Off on September 9th, a  great opportunity to engage the whole family in healthy activities of art, culture, literature, music, safety, and nutrition. Julie also orchestrated the recent Whole and Healthy Wellness Festival at The Yard, a daylong festival of fun, wellness, fitness, and personal development-geared activities and events for all ages to enjoy, the next of which takes place on October 21st.

It will be exciting to see what other creative solutions and recipes Chef Julie Frans will think up next at The Yard. The recent Confetti Bowl and Matcha Della drinks dreamt up in collaboration with Yard concepts Radiate Miami and Yoko Matcha are just some of the most recent tasty ideas!

Located at 56 NW 29th St. in the heart of Wynwood, The Wynwood Yard is open from noon. to 10 P.M. on Mondays. Tues.-Thurs.; 11 A.M. to 11 P.M.; Fri. – Sun.  from 11 A.M. to late night. The bar is open Noon – 11 P.M. on Mondays; 11 A.M. to 11 P.M. Tues – Thurs; 11 A.M. – 2 A.M. Fri – Sun.
