Now through February 15, 2016, Slow Food Miami, the local, 100% volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to “planting a fresher future for our children,” is accepting nominations for its prestigious Snail of Approval Award. Local foodies are invited to identify and honor those restaurants, bars, and artisans in Miami-Dade County that support our local growers and provide good, clean and fair food in Miami. Winners will be announced in the spring with the invitation to savor and celebrate new and current award recipients at Slow Food Miami’s popular Annual Snail of Approval Tasting Party. The Slow Food Miami “Snail of Approval” program shows South Floridians and visitors food that is good, clean and fair by identifying and honoring producers, purveyors, and artisans who contribute to the quality, authenticity, and sustainability of food and drink in Miami. Slow Food Miami Snail of Approval restaurants feature locally sourced ingredients from at least two farms and showcase locally sourced ingredients on at least four dishes. In 2010, Chef Michael Schwartz of Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink was the first recipient and ambassador of the program, which has grown to include 48 additional restaurants, bars, food-and-beverage artisans, caterers and stores over the course of five years. In its inaugural year, nominations were solicited exclusively from Miami-Dade county farmers. Now nominations come from the general public. All nominations are vetted by the Slow Food Miami “Snail of Approval” Committee.
