Jungle Island Whips Up Wholesome Family Fun at 10th Annual Badia Spices’ Fun and Fit as a Family

Featuring Goya Foods Kidz Kitchen on February 25 & 26

In search of a budget-friendly way for the whole family to savor Food Network & Cooking Channel South Beach Wine & Food Festival? Make a beeline to Jungle Island for the attraction’s 10th annual Fun and Fit as a Family, featuring Goya Foods Kidz Kitchen from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on February 25 & 26, 2016.

This two-day family affair boasts an affordable $20 per person (in advance, plus tax and service fee) ticket price and brings together favorite celebrity chefs and culinary personalities all under one ‘jungle roof,’ including first-time participants Ray & Shannon Allen, as well as return guests Duff Goldman, Robert Irvine, Eddie Jackson, Rev Run & Justine Simmons, local favorite Adrianne Calvo, and Andrew Zimmern.

“As busy parents of five children (and especially our son Walker who lives with Type 1 Diabetes), Ray and I know how important it is to make sure our family is eating real food and getting the nutrients we need on a daily basis,” says Shannon Allen. “We’re honored to be able to host Fun & Fit as a Family at Jungle Island and to show parents and their kids a few of our favorite time-saving recipes from our family’s bag of tricks that we’ve relied on over the years of making Ray’s pregame meals – and more recently at our USDA certified organic fast food concept, grown, “real food, cooked slow for fast people™”, at this year’s South Beach Wine & Food Festival’s signature family event!”

At Fun and Fit as a Family, Food Network and Cooking Channel culinary personalities show families just how easy it is to prepare meals that are delicious, nutritious and even sometimes unusual –like dishes made with bugs – during four interactive demonstrations held each day at the Goya Foods Kidz Kitchen in the Serpentarium. Additionally, this accessible, fun-filled event features physical fitness activities and interactive experiences combined with healthy food samplings and culinary demonstrations in a unique jungle-like setting surrounded by some of the world’s most rare animals. The purpose of Fun and Fit as a Family is to educate parents and children about healthy lifestyle options and how they can improve the quality of their lives through daily exercise and smart food choices.

To celebrate Fun and Fit’s 10-year anniversary, Jungle Island and the Food Network & Cooking Channel South Beach Wine & Food Festival also will host a social media contest, “10 Days of Giveaways.” Starting February 15, social media fans can participate in the contest by simply liking Jungle Island’s Facebook page and answering a series of questions related to the Festival. Prizes will range from family-packs of tickets to Fun and Fit as a Family, to mingling with Jungle Island’s favorite animal residents; one-day passes to Jungle Island; lemur encounters; sloth encounters; and once-in-a-lifetime VIP animal tours. Winners will be announced each day. Use #JungleIsland and #SOBEWFF

“For ten years, Jungle Island, in partnership with the Food Network & Cooking Channel South Beach Wine & Food Festival, has made a strong commitment to inspire families to get excited about their health in a fun way.
